Flickr Favorites - Back on the bike

Back on the flickr favorites bandwagon- yay!

Today, we have papercuts. Inspired by witnessing this lovely gal's paper cutting in progress I have become intrigued. I am thinking a very simple one might become a handmade christmas project.

1. Viernes // Paper Cutting, 2. Paper cutout, 3. Paper Cut for a Thank You Note, 4. Above the Thistle Bush

Would you like to join in on the fun? Head on over to Mitsy's

walking on...

Have you been wondering where I got to? No? Didn't think so, but I will tell you anyway! Things got a little overwhelming a few weeks ago and blogging went to the bottom of my list of priorities. But, I'm back and pleased to say, things have gotten much, much better...

There was a revolution (it has been coming for a while now- in my head) and it let its force be known in a civil & polite way. I/we decided that if the two of us are going to live in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment, some changes needed to be made (yes, the boy has officially moved in). We needed to start taking advantage of the 4m ceilings and rid ourselves of some of the clutter & the bulky stuff so...

- Out went the way to big for our tiny little space dining table, in came tiny little square table, tucked out of the way.
- out went big bulky modern (but very lovely sofa bed) in came beautiful impulse bought gorgeous new/old turquoise 1960's don rex three piece setting for a bargain price that I am totally in love with
- out went the too big vintage chinese tv cabinet being used as a wardrobe (actually I am yet to get rid of this- if you think you might be interested- let me know!) in came 2.3m tall, skinny ikea wardrobe.
- in came super tall, bookcase for showing of my 'stuff' with cupboards down the bottom so we can hide the not so pretty stuff!
- in came shelves for the kitchen to show off my lovely vintage kitchenware
- Out went the worrying about the plumbing exploding, water leaks and tree falling on my roof during the night (all of which may still happen), I can't do much about it so am not going to waste energy worrying about it.
- out went 'stuff' we don't need anymore, clothes, books, furniture, you name it... i was ruthless.

On the craft side, I am fighting my inner motivational demons when it comes to making certain things... I will solider on through the December markets and reassess at the Christmas break. Instead of doing market crafts I have been working away on several other projects and have been collecting a few items from other gorgeous crafters, all for my hand made Christmas which I am really excited about. We also had owls last week where I managed to do my most work ever at a owly meeting- I embroidered the word "whalefish" three times in really tiny letters.

Oh and I have been working two jobs pretty much full time. But despite all this, I am super happy, i feel like i have been through a cleansing experience, the house is coming together, the boy is officially in, i have a new job and am just really enjoying doing the things I love. Isn't that what life is about? Still a few things need to be sorted but it doesn't all seem so overwhelming anymore.

An indoor shower...

image from nourishing mornings

I logged onto smh this morning to find that my area received the second highest rainfall in Sydney in the last 24 hrs and the largest downpour in the past year.

This makes me feel slightly better about the buckets & towels that are trying to catch all the leaks that have appeared in my apartment...

On another note, before the downpour (or noah & arc style rain as jess referred to it as), I made banana coconut pancakes for breakfast... YUM. And yes I cut the bananas into little hearts- inspired by this. The recipe is from this month's delicious and also features on the front cover.

the similarity is uncanny, no?

I walk past this all the time and like it very much, on the weekend, armed with my instax for instant lo-fi gratification I finally snapped it.

My Place & Yours - Bedside

I'm joining in on the fun this week... welcome to my side of the bed (the other side is even more boring & not worth sharing)

Here we have my drawers/bedside table featuring...

- Lamp from vinnies
- LOVE print by this lovely lady
- 3 bottles of perfume, hardly worn so they might as well look pretty
- Lucas' papaw ointment - for silky smooth lips
- hair ties, bobby pins, pencil, pen
- 3 x ikea vases complete with dead lavender
- two toy cameras
- some books & magazines including US Bust & Boho and remake restyle reuse all picked up in Hawaii.
- antique chinese box with a couple of badges on tip
- flyer for south sydney markets
- and the pièce de résistancee.... a can of mortein. Use to fight off the supersized creepy crawly that joined us at 2am last night, i swear it sounded like there was a possum in the room.
-oh, and bed head by my sister

Pip's organising, Lexi is this week's theme queen.. why don't you join in too?

how they would have been the days...

Welcome to my humble abode....

Fancy a Pimms on the verandah looking over the gardens and out to Sydney Harbour?

Or we could take a look at some portraits of our forefathers?

Perhaps we could just retire to the sitting room and have high tea?

I wish!! This is New South Wales Government House in Sydney, a beautiful old sandstone building designed by the same architect who is responsible for Buckingham Palace (who would have thought!). I had a function there tonight and would love to go back to check it out in more detail! It is situated in the Botanical Gardens and has an enormous number of beautiful artifacts & antiques, lush carpets, unbelievably high ceilings, chandeliers, beautiful gardens, walls with gold leafing and hand painted wallpaper like patterns. It is no longer the Governors residence and anyone is able to visit both the house (by tour only) & gardens, visit the website for more details. Highly recommended.

And apologies for the dodgy iphone photos... They really don't do justice to the loveliness of the building, grounds and all that lie within.
